Lets revive endangered grasslands!

We invite farmers, to put their grasslands with at least one globally endangered bird species into shape and turn them into demonstration farms. Grasslands are natural habitats which are formed by sustainable human activity. This is why the way of farming determines the appearance and biodiversity of grasslands. Unfortunately, due to changing traditions of farming the number of cattle in grasslands is decreasing, grasslands are sawed rarely and become filled with bushes. This leads to the loss of rare animal and bird habitats.

Baltic Environmental Forum together with Lithuanian Ornithological Society is implementing a project for the protection of Corncrake, Great Snipe and Aquatic Wabler in grasslands. These species need moist, fertile soil and hay meadows, therefore the perspectives of the protection of these bird species are directly linked to agri-environment. Agri-environment means a responsible and favourable to wildlife farming, therefore, the project aims to promote this kind of farming and motivate farmers to put their grasslands into shape.

We invite all farmers to join the initiative and turn their farms into demonstration ones. We provide all necessary expert advice for agri-environmental development, support for grassland improvement, infrastructure arrangement and help in application process for financial support.
Those who are interested, please send a short description of your farm and your future plans concerning it to this address:
